Broadening Horizons

At Rushey Mead Primary School, we offer a challenging, engaging curriculum which meets the needs of the children we teach that supports the development of children’s confidence and resilience. We teach the National Curriculum through key themes alongside quality texts.

Our curriculum has been constructed carefully and progressively to ensure children build on prior learning to ensure they know more, remember more and can do more. We are ambitious for all pupils, and have designed our curriculum to provide our pupils with the cultural capital that they need to succeed in life. They learn substantive and disciplinary knowledge to provide them with sufficient knowledge and skills for future learning and employment. To meet the needs of our pupils and the community we serve, there is a focus on vocabulary and language acquisition, diversity and character education throughout all areas of our curriculum. In addition to this, we are passionate about how the curriculum can support the safeguarding of children and have made explicit links to guarantee our children have the knowledge and confidence to safeguard themselves and know how to seek help and support throughout their lives.

At Rushey Mead, we know that learning starts from the moment our children step through the door to our nursery. All of our progressive curriculum planning starts in the early years to ensure they are prepared for the curriculum ahead, and have been exposed to a wealth of experiences and stories which support their wider understanding of the world.

Online Learning

At Rushey Mead, we understand how effective technology can be to support learning. We therefore subscribe to a number of online platforms which support children's learning at home and at school. These include, Spelling Shed, Times Table Rock Stars, Numbots and Accelerated Reader.
