Art and Design
"I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no word for." Georgia O'Keeffe
At Rushey Mead Primary we believe that art stimulates creativity, imagination and inventiveness. We aim to teach Art and Design in a fun and creative way. We believe that art gives our pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express responses to ideas and experiences. Through our Art curriculum we aim to fire the children’s imagination and we aspire to ensure that children are engaged, inspired and challenged throughout each topic.
At Rushey Mead we aim to provide the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of art and design by exploring various diverse as well as local artists, craft makers and designers, and to understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms and their impact on culture and history. Our Art curriculum should enable the children to communicate what they see, feel and think.
Children will be encouraged to experiment with their ideas, their use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes therefore enabling them to continue to develop and secure their skill base and become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. Children will be encouraged to use their skills to create their own independent works of art, craft and design. In order to achieve their best potential, they will have access to a range of good quality resources that will support each topic and enable a confident approach.
