Geography
.
“Our planet, the Earth, is, as far as we know, unique in the universe.
It contains life.” Sir David Attenborough
At Rushey Mead, we support our children in our quest for them to become global citizens by using Geography as one of our main curriculum drivers and by delivering a high-quality, engaging and progressive Curriculum. We aim to develop the children’s natural fascination with the world around them through exciting and memorable learning experiences, including fieldwork opportunities. Pupils will be given opportunities to provoke and provide answers to questions and develop their understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s physical and human processes. Children start to understand where they are in the world, how the world works in relation to human activity (such as trade and tourism) and how physical features affect their lives and the lives of others (for example, how climate affects - both positively and negatively - the lives of people globally or how rivers benefit or damage lives globally). As our children's knowledge of the world grows and develops, so will their ability to challenge, question and reflect on their own viewpoints.
Geography is concerned with the study of places, the human and physical processes that shape them and the people who live in them. Through this learning we will be preparing the children to navigate their way through the 21st century world which will enable them to face the exciting challenges and opportunities it will bring and make a positive impact on the world around them.
