Nature is the best playground
Outdoor Learning
At Rushey Mead Primary School, we value learning outside the classroom. We know that learning outside the classroom brings together formal and informal learning through meaningful experiences. Learning beyond the classroom helps to improve social mobility, giving children new and exciting experiences that inspire them to reach their potential. It also addresses educational inequality, re-motivating children who may not thrive in the traditional classroom environment. Learning outside the classroom is known to contribute significantly to raising standards and improving pupils' personal, social and emotional development. As outlined in our vision, Rushey Mead is dedicated in supporting children's acquisition of the English language, learning in the environment and exploring nature supports this.

What is Forest Schools?
Forest Schools is a child-centred inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting. Forest School learning also provides cultural capital to support the Rushey Mead curriculum. An example of this is our F2 children learning how fire burns wood during Forest School sessions, preparing them to learn about the Great Fire of London in Year 1!
